This Is How You Hit Your Ultimate Goal!

It’s Not That You Don’t Want To Change...

...it’s that you may be reaching for a goal that is unrealistic. Well, at least for now.

Have you ever wondered why people find it hard to stick to living a healthy lifestyle? I’ll cut to the chase. It’s usually because their goals are on a completely different wavelength than where they are now. I mean, yes goals are goals for a reason but what many of us miss are the baby steps in between. When you have spent years building a certain habit, or habits, you can’t expect it to kick it in day… or even in a week. You’ll see that if you create a goal and give it an unrealistic timeline you won’t always get there. And then you end up disappointed and possibly even more down on yourself than you were before.

You want to avoid that!

It’s not healthy nor is this instance the defining moment of who you are as a person. It rather provides you with a snapshot of your deepest desires. All you need now is a plan to get there. Here are where the baby steps come in!

So how do you get to that elusive goal?

1. Get your mind right.

Your mind has to be in the right spot for you to be able to commit to a goal. So do the leg work! Figure out the underlying reason why you want to reach that goal. Your “why” will be the thing that pushes you to commit and reminds you of the reasons for embarking on this journey in the first place.

2. Give yourself a realistic time frame and commit to yourself.

Set an actual date. This makes it real. Then commit to doing this one thing for yourself. If you’re anything like a lot of humans, you’re selfless and you are probably at the bottom of your list of things to take care of, that’s if even you’ve even made the list at all.

3. Set baby steps!

These mile markers will keep you on track. Daily, weekly, or monthly goals are all great when it comes to your time frame. Depending on how long you have given yourself to get to your ultimate goal, you’ll choose the mile markers (or baby steps) needed to get you there. Commit to these little steps that set you in the right direction. Your will power tends to get stronger when you do so and that gives you the confidence you need to push forward to your ultimate goal.

4. Keep a journal of your journey.

Even if you don’t have an accountability partner you can’t hide from yourself. This journal is there for you to record how you are feeling along the way. If you are doing awesome, write it down. If you are falling off the bandwagon, write it down! My favorite practice is freewriting. Just let it flow and let it go. That’s my motto. There is no right or wrong, only honesty. You can go back to these pages at any time and see just how far you have come.

5. Don’t judge either way.

It’s fine to celebrate when you hit a milestone on your journey but don’t judge. Take it for what it is. A win! It’s a fact! Notice what caused you to gain that win and continue to use that method to garner future wins and ultimately conquer your goal. Treat your perceived losses with the same sentiment. Notice what made you feel like you didn’t win that week and take steps to do better the next day.

There is another thing I want you to realize about goal setting. And that is once you hit the goal, you’ll have to work to maintain it. Continue developing positive goals and possibly push for a stretch goal. A stretch goal is a goal beyond where you currently are. It is challenging but possible. It pushes you to become an even better version of yourself as well as show you how much you have grown.

You never stop growing and you never stop learning. Take this time to enjoy the ride. Life is short so why not savor every moment of getting to know your new self and appreciating your journey!
